Strong Collecting Power PIBX

Product Description

Product Introduction

Potassium Isobutyl Xanthate (PIBX), CAS 13001-46-2, is a high-performance anionic collector developed for the froth flotation of sulfide minerals. Compared with short-chain xanthates such as ethyl and isopropyl xanthate, the branched isobutyl group in PIBX gives it a longer hydrocarbon chain, which translates into stronger collecting power, higher recovery and better selectivity for copper, lead, zinc, gold and polymetallic sulfide ores.

PIBX is a light yellow powder or pellet that dissolves readily in water and forms a stable alkaline solution. It is widely adopted in rougher, scavenger and cleaner circuits, particularly where a balance between collecting strength and selectivity is required. The product is manufactured under strict quality control, packed in moisture-proof export packaging and shipped worldwide with full documentation.

Key selling points: strong collecting ability, high flotation recovery, good selectivity, low consumption dosage, fast dissolution and stable performance across a wide pH range.

Product Functions

  • Strong collecting power: the branched isobutyl chain provides stronger hydrophobic coverage on sulfide mineral surfaces than short-chain xanthates, improving attachment to air bubbles.
  • High recovery: effective in rougher and scavenger flotation, significantly improving recovery of copper, lead, zinc, gold and silver sulfide ores.
  • Good selectivity: separates valuable sulfides from gangue and pyrite with better selectivity than ethyl or isopropyl xanthate, reducing reagent consumption and improving concentrate grade.
  • Fast dissolution: dissolves rapidly in water and forms a stable, homogeneous solution ready for precise dosing.
  • Low dosage: high collecting efficiency allows a lower dosage to achieve the same recovery, lowering operating cost per ton of ore.
  • Wide pH tolerance: stable performance across neutral to alkaline pulp conditions, adaptable to different flotation flowsheets.

Application Areas

  • Copper sulfide ore flotation - chalcopyrite, chalcocite and bornite.
  • Lead-zinc sulfide ore flotation - galena and sphalerite, including differential lead-zinc separation.
  • Gold and silver sulfide ore - sulfidic gold ores and refractory gold bearing sulfides.
  • Polymetallic sulfide ore - copper-lead-zinc and other complex polymetallic deposits.
  • Pyrite flotation - as a collector in acidic and alkaline circuits.
  • Nickel, cobalt and molybdenum sulfide beneficiation plants.
  • Wastewater and tailings treatment - heavy metal precipitation and removal of residual metal ions.

Manufacturing Process

  1. Raw material preparation: isobutyl alcohol, carbon disulfide (CS2) and potassium hydroxide (KOH) are metered to a controlled reaction ratio with cooling capacity on standby.
  2. Xanthation reaction: isobutyl alcohol reacts with potassium hydroxide to form potassium isobutoxide, which is then reacted with carbon disulfide under a controlled temperature of about 20 - 30 °C to form potassium isobutyl xanthate.
  3. Crystallization and granulation: the reaction mixture is cooled and crystallized; the product is granulated into powder or pellet form depending on customer requirement.
  4. Drying: the wet product is dried at low temperature to control moisture and preserve active content.
  5. Quality inspection: each batch is tested for active content, moisture, free alkali and water insoluble matter before release.
  6. Packaging and storage: the finished product is sealed in moisture-proof drums or bags with an inner PE liner and stored away from light, heat and moisture.
